Choochokam Art

Wondering what the word "Choochokam" means? Choochokam is a Hopi word which roughly translates as "a Gathering of Stars." Our "stars," a diverse group of several hundred local artists, inspired by the early organizers to create what we now know as The Choochokam Festival of the Arts.

The Festival began as a dream. Could we gather our community's artists together, once a year, for a celebration in downtown Langley? The original festivals were sponsored by the Island Arts Council to support their scholarship program for local young artists.

During the 35 years of its existence, the Choochokam Festival has undergone numerous changes.

In 2007, the nonprofit organization, Choochokam Arts, was created. Our mission is to create an organization that reflects the richness of Langley's artistic community and encourages participation in this local celebration.

Today, the festival is under the nonprofit umbrella of the Langley Chamber of Commerce.

Choochokam Arts is infused with energy by its valued, hard-working volunteers. With the help of our partner, the Whidbey Island Arts Council, we hope to host arts programs throughout the year on South Whidbey Island.

The 2010 Choochokam Arts Festival is directed by the very talented Tom Moore & Celia Black. For information on board and committee opportunities, email [email protected].
